Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) are a group of 20 preventable infectious diseases that place a heavy burden on more than 1.7 billion people around the world and typically affect the most marginalized and difficult-to-reach populations.

The Reach Campaign is a first-of-its-kind fundraising initiative to end the Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) river blindness and elephantiasis. NTDs disproportionately affect the world’s poorest people, trapping their families in cycles of poverty. When adults suffer from such diseases, children are taken out of school to support their care. Just 2 AED (USD 50 cents) can provide the medicine and treatment to protect one person from river blindness, lymphatic filariasis (elephantiasis) and several other co-endemic diseases for the entire year.

The Challenge

We aim to walk, run or cycle the 40,075km around the world between January 1st and 31st and we need your help!

This is a collective workout challenge, however, we got a number of individual and group milestones that you can help us to achieve.

  1. Level 1: 20 a day. Run, walk or cycle for 20 minutes a day (to reflect the number of NTDs)
  2. Level 2: Seven Thirty One. We will walk, run or cycle the cumulative distance from Abu Dhabi to the seven countries worse affected by river blindness and elephantiasis in 31 days.
  3. Level 3: We ran the world. Help us wrap our supportive arm around the world by walking, running or cycling the distance around the world in 31 days. That is 40,075km! Every km you contribute will add towards this cumulative target.

You can participate in these activities at home, in your compound, school, parks like Al Hudairat Island, or at ‘TrainYas’ on Sundays and Tuesdays at Yas Marina Circuit.

The event is free to participate however, we have a suggested minimum donation of 50aed to support vital treatments for Neglected Tropical Diseases.

If you would like to go the extra mile, you can set up your own crowdfunding page through our approved and dedicated site https://www.yallagive.com/en. If you require any assistance to set up your own page and raise money for this important cause please reach out to seth.amoafo@reachtheend.org.

Your support goes a long way, thank you.

Submission of manual activities

To facilitate this we have produced a manual submission form which you can enter details of the activities for the contests that you have registered for.

What are time challenges?

Time challenges provide a way to register for and complete a real-world course at a convenient time. By pairing your Strava account you can record your time over the selected course using a mobile phone or connected wearable device. Once the activity has been completed you will be added to the leaderboard and will have the opportunity to attempt the course as many times as you like during the event dates to improve your position.

What are challenges?

Similar to time challenges, inphota challenges allow for completion of an activity without the need for a real-world course, or a pre-arranged gathering. By pairing your Fitbit account you can record your activity when convenient, and it will be counted towards the challenge that you register for. You have the opportunity to attempt the challenge as many times as you like during the challenge period to improve your position.

Prizes and rewards will be fulfilled upon completion of the challenge.

When will I appear?

Our leaderboards for this challenge show the best efforts by people who have registered for this contest, and completed a qualifying activity using their wearable device. For time challenges this must be a device which uploads to Strava, otherwise a Fitbit device.

To be considered for the leaderboard you have to follow several steps:

  1. Sign up for the contest that you're interested in
  2. Connect your Fitbit or Strava account to your inphota account so that we know when you attempt the challenge
  3. Complete a qualifying activity (as many time as you like!)
  4. Upload your workout

That's it! Just use your Fitbit or Strava account as you normally would, and we will automatically download the activity and put you on the leaderboard. Please note that this process can take up to an hour after you complete the upload.

If you're having problems, or you've done an effort that isn't appearing after this time, then please get in touch with our in-site chat system.
